One gets a curious sense of the familiar when reading about the alt-right. In the chosen symbols, the slogans and the memes, you might recall voices from childhood or, more likely, adolescence. The young men who make up this movement are indeed the same ones who leave angry comments online because the Star Wars Battlefront: 2 single player campaign protagonist isn’t a dude, who just can’t help but feel on the sidelines of their own culture. And it’s a culture which Richard Spencer and his slick pseudo-intellectual kind tell us “European” men built all on their own. It’s the sound of men who can claim to be capable of singlehandedly conquering the world, but who, when scrutinized as individuals, suddenly find their hands tied.
