Chancellor Brady sent out a campus wide e-mail at 9:48 a.m. which stated that she would retire on July 31, 2015.

In the statement Chancellor Brady stated that the reason for the early announcement was to help in the transition process.

“I am announcing my plans at this time to provide a search committee sufficient time to identify a successor and ensure a smooth leadership transition for the start of the 2015-16 academic year on Aug. 1, 2015,” Brady said. “In addition, as we have just launched an 18-month strategic visioning and planning process to set the university’s course for 2016 to 2026, I believe it will be important for this university’s next leader to participate in this important process and lead UNCG into the future.”

Also in the statement Chancellor Brady recognized that in her final months, the university has much to do.

“Over the coming months, much work remains to be done together,” Brady said. “I have pledged my support for a smooth leadership transition and will focus on three key areas: supporting Provost Dana Dunn in the strategic visioning and planning process; preparing for the upcoming long session of the North Carolina General Assembly; and implementation of the Union Square campus in downtown Greensboro.”

Chancellor Brady was installed as chancellor on May 5, 2009. After seven years she will step away and in the statement expressed an interest in returning to the classroom.

“I shall be forever grateful for the opportunity to make a difference for our students and the people of North Carolina, and I look forward to returning to the classroom, where I began my academic career more than 40 years ago.”
