The EUC is one of the most visited buildings on campus by students at UNCG.
The reason for this may not only be due to it being the student union, but it could also be the fact that it hosts a majority UNCG’s on-campus food options.
Convenience and options, like Chick-fil-A and Salsarita’s that you can’t find any closer than about 10 minutes from campus, are what keeps students coming back.
Food in the EUC food court isn’t limited to just fast food; you can purchase sushi, salads, fruits, and a wide variety of beverages and snacks as well.
It seems as if students don’t need to go anywhere else to get what they want.
Even if you’re not eating, seating provides for a convenient space to sit down and chill out during your in-between class break.
Multiple students’ favorite feature is the extra seating upstairs.
“The colors are nice, there’s regular tables, booths, and it just makes me feel like I’m at a restaurant, but I’m not. I’m actually just on campus eating a slice of pizza or something!” says freshman Samantha Anderson who is extremely enthusiastic about the upper-level dining space.
I personally like the comfy lounge chairs on the first floor near the windows.
If I get to campus a little earlier than my classes start, it’s really nice to read over my notes for class or “people watch” under the natural lighting and seating near the door.
Although the EUC food court has great food options and plenty of space to eat, hang out, or meet with peers, there are plenty of problems UNCG students can point out with ease.
First of all, students are not happy with the cost of eating in the EUC.
Many students have noticed that the cost of food in the EUC food court seems to be more than it would be at the actual restaurant.
“Not to mention, they don’t even offer combos, they make you buy everything separate. That’s just another way to make us pay more money for food,” complains John Camden, a frequent customer of Chick-fil-A.
He further commented, “I can’t imagine how much money I’ve spent in here during the past two years.”
High prices means high quality and fast service, right? Wrong.
Some students complain that the food is subpar to their respective off-campus counterparts.
From chicken sandwiches not being cooked enough, to burgers and wings that have been sitting in the window a little too long, it’s really a hit or miss for what you get when you purchase items in the EUC food court.
And if you’re trying to grab something to eat on the way to your next class, you might as well hang that up.
The lines get ridiculous, especially around lunchtime.
While talking with some students who frequently visit the food court, we came up with an estimated average wait time of 7-10 minutes you’ll spend in the EUC purchasing food.
You’ll wait in line for your food, then wait in another, longer, line to pay for your food.
Seven minutes sounds like it might be doable during a 15-minute switch, but if you’ve got a long walk to class, you’re most likely not going to make it there on time.
So if you’re planning to eat in the EUC food court for your lunch break, make sure you bring big bucks and have plenty of time!
