The Student Government Association is in for a few changes this semester and Brittany Hudson believes she’s just the woman to help the group make a difference in students’ lives.

Hudson, a junior double majoring in business administration and media studies, has served for three years in SGA.

With two stunts as interim vice president under her belt, she’s ready to take on the official vice presidential title.

“My original plan was to run for vice president my senior year, which is next year, but due to unforeseen circumstances and my passion for the organization, I had to assume the role a little earlier than intended.”

Hudson understands she has a limited time in the office this semester, telling The Carolinian, “If elected, I would only have about three months to serve as vice president, so I’m not going to list any unrealistic initiatives.’

“One thing I want to do,” she continued, “is start to redirect the perspective students have on SGA by being more visible around campus and supporting our student organizations by truly doing something bigger altogether.”

With the elections for the 92nd session this week and the elections for the 93rd session coming in the next few weeks, Hudson says she’s trying to be wise about her campaign strategies.

She said that she wants to keep her focus on next year’s position as well, saying, “I do not plan to go super hard campaigning for this election.”

“I have just been campaigning word of mouth and social media, with a few flyers here and there,” she explained.

Hudson has an extensive platform, but some of her major goals involve inciting changes within the association itself.

“Senator retention has declined drastically over my three years as a member of this organization,” she said. “One of my goals is to ensure that senators feel more comfortable in SGA, whether it be speaking up at senate meetings, talking to their constituents or in their committees.”

Hudson’s commitment to restoring SGA’s name seems to know no bounds.

“I would like to publicize senate meetings more frequently, which are already open to students, so that they can feel more connected to the organization and also stay informed with what is going on.”

“We should not only be giving back to the students with the knowledge we receive, but we should give back to the Greensboro community,” she asserted.

“We are leaders,” she declared, “and leaders serve. I also plan to be more visible at UNCG events, whether it be a basketball game or CAB talent show.”

“I feel like people support those who support them,” Hudson argued, “so I would like to show other organizations on campus how much we care by attending their meetings when possible and events.”

At the end of the day Hudson says she just wants to help her fellow students.

“My overall goal is to just enhance and enrich the overall student experience here at UNCG,” Hudson concluded.
