This Saturday, February 7, Winston-Salem’s Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art will become a concert hall for the fourth and final performance of local tour “Across the Blue Ridge: Old Sounds, New Trails”. The tour’s weekly schedule began January 9 at UNCG’s School of Music recital hall and included stops in Mount Airy and West Jefferson.

The Center for Contemporary Art, or SECCA, is nestled in the heart of Winston’s lush Buena Vista neighborhood. A hybrid structure of old and new architecture, the space is open and visually pleasing with long, sloping hallways and interactive projects set up in nearly every room.

Saturday’s event is presented by 88.5 WFDD Public Radio and will feature several musicians recognized through North Carolina and beyond for their dedication to traditional musical styles in old time, bluegrass, Americana and folk. It will be hosted and emceed by “Across the Blue Ridge” radio show host Paul Brown along with the Piedmont Pals (banjo aficionados Craig Smith and Terri McMurray).

Also to be featured is traditional guitarist Wayne Henderson, a renowned performer and craftsman of musical instruments. He was named a Heritage Fellow by the National Endowment for the Arts in 1995 and has since toured extensively throughout the United States in addition to locations in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. His musical style is influenced largely by the geographical intersection of Southwest Virginia and Northwest North Carolina, an area claimed also by folk greats Doc Watson and E.C. Ball.

The presentation Saturday will be held at 2 p.m., and is the first of two. A later show was originally scheduled for 7:00 that evening and is currently sold out. Tickets can be purchased at http://www.blueridgemusiccenter.org for $18, or at the door for $20 and $15 for students.
