Brittany Archie, who is running for vice president for the 2015-2016 year, is a current junior majoring in media studies; she is running for the vice president position because she wants to be the person who enhances UNCG.
Archie has been involved in the Student Government Association (SGA) since she was a sophomore here at UNCG. She has served as an At-large senator, and was also selected to join the Legislative Board and serve as the elections committee chairperson for the 2014-2015 year.
She believes that after all of her involvement with UNCG it is now time for her to make a greater impact on UNCG as a whole.
The three ways she plans on making this university even better is to “Engage, Envision and Enhance.”
Archie’s main goal is to improve the relationship that students have with one another.
“By strengthening the relationship that the senate has with the student body, the easier it is for SGA to gain an understanding of what students need and want,” she explained.
When asked about what she wants in a new Chancellor, Archie said she would like the new chancellor to be more engaged with the student body.
She also said, “It is my concern that the next chancellor is chosen, not based off of their administrative capabilities alone, but also personality traits and characteristics.”
Archie agrees that UNCG’s campus is an apolitical one and says, “I find that most students just don’t care. However, they don’t care because they are not informed about what Student Government is and what we do for them.”
If she is chosen to be vice president she says she will make sure that she educates the student body about SGA. The way she plans to get the student body’s attention is to go to them and show interest in them.
Since it is SGA’s job to get information out to the study body she wants to start setting up tables and posting flyers where the most traffic is around campus. “It is less likely to be avoided if it [SGA] is everywhere,” she stated.
When it’s time to introduce UNCG’s new strategic plan, Archie says marketing is important, asserting, “I believe if an idea is introduced as important and exciting, it has a greater chance of being received that way.”
To show the importance of the strategic plans Archie says she would plan a EUC Cone Ballroom takeover that would include a representative from the committee introducing the plan along with food, games and giveaways to make it more exciting.
Hudson’s recent worry involves the UNC Board of Governors closing down university centers and raising tuition across the UNC system. She says she would like them to realize that they are affecting students and the community in the worse way.
By the end of her term, Archie envisions an increase in school pride once her plans for the school have been implemented.
