The UNC-Greensboro community assembled in the Moran Commons and Plaza Tuesday to celebrate UNCG’s 2015 Active Minds Healthy Campus Award.

Active Minds, a national nonprofit that aims to raise awarness about mental health issues, announced that UNCG is one of five universities the organization recognizes as leaders in student health and well-being initiatives.

Cornell University, the University of Texas at Austin, the University of Minnesota and Western Washington University are also recipients.

Active Minds lauded UNCG for its investment in a new $91 million recreation center. The organization also commended the university for its Spartan Wellness Living Learning Community, Institute to Promote Athlete Health & Wellness and award-winning clinics such as the ADHD Clinic.

Chancellor Franklin Gilliam Jr. spoke to community members at the celebration, saying that this award is a step in the right direction as the university attempts to garner more national attention.

“I don’t want to be a best-kept secret. I want people to know who we are,” Gilliam told the  crowd.
