The 1950 NBA Draft was a turning moment for the sport. Chuck Cooper became the first African-American to be drafted, being selected in the second round by the Boston Celtics. Harold Hunter, drafted in the tenth round, became the first African American athlete to sign an NBA contract when he signed with the Washington Capitals. On Halloween night, Earl Lloyd, also with the Washington Capitals, became the first African American to play an NBA game.
