One Way Traffic for Visitors on Homecoming Weekend

UNCG Women’s Volleyball faced Wofford on Oct. 4 to kick off Homecoming weekend. The match honored UNCG Volleyball alumni and had an attendance of 802. A victory was surely in the mind of all UNCG students, alumni, and players, but the game did not go as planned: UNCG failed to find their footing throughout the whole match. It was a commanding victory for the visitors.

Wofford ran away with the first set, winning 25-12. This set the tone for the rest of the match and gave Wofford confidence as if they were playing at home. The second set went a little bit better for UNCG. The Spartans were able to impose themselves on the game a bit more. Unfortunately, it was not enough, and Wofford was able to win this set with a score of 25-18.

Wofford began the third set with 4 straight points without response from the Spartans. With this initial score, it looked unlikely that UNCG could cause an upset and extend the game into further sets. The third set ended in Wofford’s favor with a final score of 25-18. This ended the match with a final score of 3-0, a match that is best described with the phrase “one-way traffic.”

Overall, a routine victory for Wofford and a match to forget for our UNCG Spartans. UNCG will need to put in a response next time out when they travel to Cullowhee, N.C., on Oct. 11 to face Western Carolina.
