On Sunday, Oct. 6, UNCG’s Spartans faced off against the Wofford Bulldogs at home. Coming off a big shutout win against Chattanooga last time out, and with the day being Senior Sunday, anticipation was high for the Spartans.
Before the game, players, coaches, and the crowd stood together in a brief and meaningful moment of silence in honor of the struggles across western North Carolina from Hurricane Helene.
UNCG got the game underway and were off the mark almost immediately. In the second minute of the match, after a costly mistake by Wofford, UNCG took control of the game with a goal by forward, Merle Greulich. Throughout the half, both sides threatened the net, but neither side was able to convert. At halftime the score was 1-0 in favor of our UNCG Spartans.
Both sides remained even throughout the second half of the match. With the UNCG Spartans fighting to keep their narrow lead, and Wofford scrambling to match the Spartans, intensity started to ramp up on both sides.

But it wasn’t until the final few minutes of the game that the match would reach its boiling point. At 86:59, UNCG’s forward Morgan Brubaker scored a phenomenal goal to put the Spartans two goals up with no time for a response from Wofford. The final score was 2-0, giving our Spartans back-to-back wins.
Next up, the Spartans travel to Greenville, South Carolina, on Oct. 10 to face off against Furman University.
