Education Day Win!
Our UNCG Women’s Basketball team was in action two times this past week and was able to add two more wins to their preseason campaign. The team has made Fleming Gym into something of a fortress, not having lost a single game at home so far.
UNCG Women’s Basketball first faced UNC Asheville on Tuesday, Nov. 19 in an Education Day match that was attended by hundreds of elementary school students from around the area. This game had a back-and-forth feel to it and UNCG fell behind by the end of the first quarter.
The next two quarters were too close to predict the match outcome, and it wasn’t until the final quarter that our UNCG Spartans established their winning credentials, outscoring UNC Asheville 17-5. This fourth quarter performance let UNCG walk off the court with a scoreline of 59-48.

A win on any day is important, but a win in front of the community’s elementary school students made it all the more special. On the way out of the stadium, you could hear the teachers asking, “Who wants to come to this college?” Dozens of students answered, shouting, “Me!”

Livingstone Win!
UNCG Women’s Basketball grabbed their latest win on Friday, Nov. 22 against Livingstone in a very routine performance summarized by the one-sided scoreline 79-41. By the end of the first half of play, UNCG only led the visitors by eight points. However, the Spartans were able to limit Livingstone to score 18 points the entirety of the second half, while making sure to put the result beyond doubt by scoring 48.

Jaila Lee and Kelly Boyle led UNCG in points scored with 13 points each. Jayde Gamble was also able to get into double digit figures with her 11 points. Meanwhile, Khalis Cain was instrumental with her 13 rebounds, seven of which were offensive rebounds.
What next?
UNCG Women’s Basketball won’t be back home until Dec. 31 when they take on next door neighbors Greensboro College. Before that, their focus must remain on a very difficult gauntlet of away matches. Their matchups soon include:
- Dec. 11 at North Carolina @ Chapel Hill
- Dec. 16 at Georgia
- Dec. 20 at Wake Forest
Our history against Chapel Hill is not kind (0-5), but it is important to focus on closing the gap between these teams. UNCG is a Division I school and needs to remain competitive, especially against the top teams. We will be behind our Spartans every step of the way. Up the Spartans!
