UNCG Women’s Basketball took on Wofford in a game that celebrated Black History Month. The game saw UNCG defeat Wofford 68-60 while many in the crowd as well as all the UNCG Women’s Basketball staff wore shirts that bore the words, “Black History is American History.”

Leading up to the game, the UNCG Women’s Basketball Instagram page posted several of the players and their views on the celebration of Black history and its importance. Nya Smith believes that the month is a time to “really reflect on history and the impact that strong Black historical figures have made on the way society is structured to this day.” Makiah Asidanya shares similar sentiments and states that this month, “is a time to uplift the Black community and encourage each other to continue making history.”

UNCG Women’s Basketball has three more games left in the regular season, in which they will be hoping to clinch a first-place finish.
