This Week at UNC Greensboro

As spooky season gets into full swing and midterms approach, it can be easy to feel as if the semester is flying by, but there are still a variety of events and activities taking place at UNC Greensboro in the coming week. The Office of Intercultural Engagement has a calendar of events for all Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15th to October 15th). September is also National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month and UNC Greensboro is also observing Mental Health Month. While many associated events have already taken place, mental health resources and support are still available. 

Exploring Undergraduate Research and Creativity  

Tuesday, September 23rd at 2 p.m. in Shaw Hall, Room 143 (Tillman-Smart Room)

This session is designed to help undergraduate students understand how to get involved in research and creative inquiry while at UNCG. The session will also cover some of the options for support that are available through the URSCO and the Lloyd International Honors College. 

UNCG vs. Davidson Men’s Soccer Game (Free Admission) 

Tuesday, September 23rd at 7 p.m. at the UNC Greensboro Soccer Stadium

The Spartans hold a 15-9-4 record over the Wildcats, with the last matchup taking place Sept. 6, 2024, ending in a 2-2 draw. The last time UNCG beat Davidson was in 2013, when the Spartans won 2-0 in Greensboro.    

Clarinet Recital Performed by Luke Ellard

Clarinetist, composer, educator, and new music collaborator Luke Ellard strives for art that continually reaches out, valuing a relational spirit, informed engagement, and unapologetic authenticity.   

Dr. Ellard serves on the faculty at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro as an Assistant Professor of Clarinet, having previously served on the faculty at the University of Oklahoma and Midwestern State University while teaching privately and performing in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Luke earned their Doctor of Musical Arts in Clarinet Performance, with related studies in Contemporary Music and Music Entrepreneurship at the University of North Texas, studying under Kimberly Cole Luevano.

This is your chance to step away from the internet and go outside. In this workshop, we will explore ways to enhance our well-being through connection with the natural world. The workshop runs for three consecutive Wednesdays, September 10th, 17th, and 24th from 3pm to 4:30pm at the back courtyard of the Smith Campus Ministry Building (500 Stirling St.). Activities will include planting edible plants, creating nature-based art, and practicing mindfulness. Please join us and touch grass.  

Jazz Ensembles I & II: All Blues Concert

Voices of Hope: A Suicide Prevention and Awareness Event

An interactive awareness night where UNCG students come together to learn about suicide prevention, raise awareness, practice self-care, and build a supportive community. The goal is to raise awareness about prevention, provide education on mental health resources, and create a supportive space where individuals can share stories of resilience and healing. The event seeks to break the stigma surrounding mental health struggles, foster connection within the community, and remind everyone that hope and help are always within reach.
