UNCG Volleyball was in action Saturday night for its last home game of the season against the Wofford Terriers. The team also celebrated Senior Day – recognizing departing players McKenna Timmerman, Elenoa Sing, Megan Carron, Robin Rosser, and Student Manager Braylan Crouch. The Spartans sent off the seniors with a win over the Terriers as UNCG shifts focus towards the SoCon Volleyball Championship. Meanwhile, UNCG Women’s Basketball grabbed its first win of the season on Friday, and the Men’s Basketball team struggled against the Austin Peay Governors Saturday. In the SoCon Men’s Soccer Championship Final, UNCG was tasked with defeating the Furman Paladins for an automatic berth in the NCAA D1 tournament.

Women’s Volleyball Senior Day

UNCG Volleyball played its final game of the 2025 SoCon season against the Wofford Terriers on Saturday night at Bodford Arena. Prior to the match, four senior players were celebrated: outside hitter McKenna Timmerman, libero Megan Carron, right side Robin Rosser, and middle blocker Elenoa Sing. Student Manager Braylan Crouch was also recognized prior to the match.

Senior McKenna Timmerman had herself a night, leading the Spartans in two statistical categories with 11 kills and two aces. Meanwhile, Allie Sweet recorded a double-double in the sweep over Wofford (11 kills and 16 digs).

UNCG won two of the sets by at least ten points, comfortably sweeping the Terriers aside on the way to clinching the fifth seed for the SoCon Volleyball Championship that will take place November 20-23 in Asheville. The Spartans will be pitted against No. 4 Chattanooga in quarterfinals of the tournament. UNCG will hold a lot of confidence heading into this game after defeating Chattanooga on both occasions in the regular season.

UNCG Women’s Basketball Win

UNCG Women’s Basketball has been on the road for the entire start to the 2025-26 basketball season. In that span, they have faced some stiff competition including the ACC’s Stanford and the SEC’s Auburn – two power conferences in basketball. Despite losing these matches, UNCG would grab its first win 57-53 on Friday night against Presbyterian College.

Makiah Asidanya led the Spartans to victory with her offense generating 18 points – the highest in the match. Asidanya also registered five rebounds, one block, and three steals in the contest. She was not alone in offense and both Jeni Levine (17 points) and Rylan Moffitt (11 points) had a double-digit impact. Mia Simpson led the team in rebounds with seven, three of those being offensive rebounds.

UNCG Women’s Basketball now ends its road stretch with a Bodford Arena home opener against Gardner-Webb on November 21 at 7:00 p.m.

UNCG Men’s Soccer Falls to Furman

UNCG Men’s Soccer was in the SoCon Men’s Soccer Championship Final on Sunday against the Furman Paladins – a side that they have not been able to overcome in the past two meetings. The last time that these two sides met in the post season, the Paladins knocked UNCG out of the tournament in penalty kicks. Furman would once again prove too much for the Spartans and win the match 1-0 after double OT. That makes it back-to-back championships for the Paladins as they punch their ticket to the NCAA DI Soccer tournament.

UNCG Men’s Soccer will have to wait for a possible NCAA Selection bid to participate in the national tournament (not certain as of writing this).

UNCG Men’s Basketball Struggles

UNCG Men’s Basketball has had a slow start to the 2025-26 season, losing the first four games of the season. Two of the losses have come against two top teams in the nation, Kansas State and NC State. However, the Spartans have lost both home games this season against Elon and Austin Peay – arguably winnable games for the Men’s Basketball team.

Against Austin Peay on Saturday, Justin Neely led the Spartans with a double-double (15 points and 14 rebounds).  The Spartans are back in action on Thursday against Queens University (2-3) in Charlotte.
