As beautiful a campus as UNCG is, the beloved Graham building does it no justice.

The huge brick mass on the corner of campus is nothing but an eyesore, and I know you have all been thinking it. We can first talk about the location. For many of us, during our beginning years at UNCG, the Graham building was a quite a trek.

Walking down College Avenue to the Curry building is one thing, but having to take

the left turn towards Graham is a deal breaker. Then, once you finally make it inside, all you see is stairs basically hitting you in the face: great, just what you want at eight in the morning.  And not only is it one flight of stairs, oh no, it’s a full four flights of stairs for you to conquer just to make it to that anthropology class you don’t want to be at anyways.

We have all heard of the mysterious elevator that resides somewhere in the building, but to actually find them would make you late to class. Granted, if you are lucky enough to find the hidden elevator in time, do not count your blessings. It’s the tinniest, most intimate elevator you will ever find. It feels like you are locked in a safe room.

For those of you that have been lucky enough to avoid the inside of the Graham building, I’m sure you haven’t been able to escape the hideousness of the outside.

Aside from the mono-toned brick exterior, there’s the fact that it’s the most simplistic architectural design ever seen. It wouldn’t be such a big deal if the ugliest building on campus was anywhere else besides right on the outside of campus where many non-UNCG goers drive by. I mean, why let people think that’s the best we have to look at? It’s not like we can be angry at a building, but it would be nice if Graham could represent UNCG just a little nicer.

Everything from the depressing color of the bricks to the shape of the building screams, “don’t look at me!” If only it actually worked and people didn’t just stare at the brick mass in annoyance. Maybe the Graham building is shy, or embarrassed of its lack-luster insides. Maybe it knows all of us students hate it.  Either way, we must accept the fact that some of us will have to enter the dungeon like building for class while others will just have to attempt to find some sense of beauty in its horrid appearance long enough to make it to our next destination.
