The Career Service Center (CSC) will hold UNCG’s Fall Career Fair on Wednesday, September 28, showcasing employers for full-time jobs, internship opportunities, and graduate schools.
The Career Fair has been held in the Elliott University Center in past years, but in it’s new location the Leonard J. Kaplan Center for Wellness has more room for employers.
“There will be 110 employers present as opposed to the 94 we had last year”, CSC Assistant Director for Recruiter Management Katie Geise said, “The event will get even bigger in the future as we get used to the new space”.
The Fall Career Fair is for students of all majors and years. Although most students associate the Career Fair with business majors, employers from across a variety of industries will be present.
“Many employers have even expressed an interest in talking to students from all majors,” Geise said.
Employers present will include Guilford and Montgomery county schools, Cone Health, Lincoln Financial Group, Pepsi Bottling Ventures, and the U.S. Department of State. A complete list of organizations attending can be found on the SpartanCareers website or the new UNCG Career Fair Plus app available in the App Store and Google Play.
While students may drop in on the day of, preparation is strongly recommended, including resume-building, practice interviews, and researching of employers present.
Resumes are encouraged, though not required. The CSC, open Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., offers resume construction and review services by CSC Peer Career Ambassadors. Mock interviews are also offered and recommended to practice in preparation for meeting future employers.
Full suits are recommended, but no longer required for entry. However, professional dress is required. Acceptable attire includes polos, slacks, and blouses. A full description of acceptable garments can be found on the CSC website.
Planning for travel to the Kaplan Center is recommended for all students. Geise strongly encourages students to make use of the Spartan Chariot for event transit. Students can use the real-time bus locator on the Parking Operations & Campus Access Management page to track the Spartan Chariot’s movements.
Students may drop in at any point during the run, but organizations begin to leave around 1:30pm.
“If you say to yourself the morning of ‘hm, I think I’ll go to the Career Fair’ that’s fine,” Geise said, “but we strongly encourage you plan out your day ahead of time.”
Although the Career Fair is commonly used by graduating seniors to secure jobs before graduation, the event is not just for them. Underclassmen also attend to learn what jobs are out there, practice meeting employers, and find internships to bolster resumes.
The CSC Fall Career Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Kaplan Center. UNCG student ID is required for entry, and pre-registration is encouraged.
