Today the 1968 MLB season is known as “The Year of the Pitcher,” as the entire season saw entire teams unable to hit or score against the pitching staffs they competed against. To illustrate how poor the hitting was, Boston Red Soxs outfielder Carl Yastrzemski won the American League batting title with a .301 batting average, 11 points higher to his closest competitor. By comparison, Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve won this past season’s batting title with a .346 average.
