In Carolina Panthers news, the coaching staff changes which began during the regular season have continued into the off-season. Former Jacksonville Jaguars defensive backs coach Perry Fewell was hired to fulfill the same role for the Panthers. Also, head coach Ron Rivera will continue to call the plays on the defensive end as he did during the last few games of the regular season while Eric Washington will retain his title of defensive coordinator.
More news coming out of Charlotte, veteran linebacker and longtime team captain Thomas Davis’ announced that he will not be returning to the Carolina Panthers this off-season. Davis had initially planned on retiring after this season’s end; however, he feels that he has more football left in him. Unfortunately for Davis and Panthers fans, the time has come to hand the reins to young linebacker Shaq Thompson and see what he can do with more snaps, as his rookie deal will soon expire.
In Charlotte Hornets news, it appears as if high-flying rookie forward Miles Bridges is slated to appear in the Slam Dunk Contest during All-Star Weekend in Charlotte. He will be the first Hornet/Bobcat to participate since Gerald Wallace did so back in 2010. On the court, the Hornets currently sit at 22-24 and hold the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference. Charlotte is currently holding on to that last playoff spot by 1.5 games over 20-25 Detroit Pistons, whom the Hornets currently own a head-to-head tiebreaker over.
