Exhibitions Ending Soon at the Weatherspoon Art Museum

The Weatherspoon Art Museum is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10am to 5pm, with hours extended to 8pm on Thursdays. The Weatherspoon is closed on Sundays and Mondays, and these hours are maintained during the UNC Greensboro summer break. However, some current exhibitions are ending soon, so catch them before they’re gone.

On the Horizon

1st Floor: Space for Engagement

January 6, 2026 – May 2, 2026

Looking out across a distance, our eyes perceive a line where the sky appears to meet the earth’s surface. These horizon lines are a favorite of visual artists, who can use them to create vastly different senses of space and mood within an image. Place the horizon line low, and the world seems wide open, full of sky. Place the horizon line high, and the world seems to close in, blocking our view. Lay the line flat and all seems still, but tilt it and things seem in motion. As we all move together into the new year, what’s on each of our horizons?

Pattern Recognition

1st Floor: Louise D. and Herbert S. Falk, Sr. Gallery

June 7, 2025 – May 2, 2026

Patterns permeate our lives—so much so that we might not even notice them as such. Visual patterns abound in textiles, décor, and architecture. Natural patterns define the branching structures of trees, the migratory treks of animals, and the cycles of the seasons and the weather. Mathematicians work with number patterns, chemists study bonding patterns, psychologists discern thought patterns, and musicians arrange melodic patterns. Whether we see, think, feel, or hear them, patterns shape our experiences of the world.

This exhibition features artworks from the Weatherspoon’s collection in which artists explore the power of patterns. Collectively, this work highlights the ways in which patterns can provide both stability and activation and register both familiarity and surprise. We hope that, as you explore the installation, you will find works that resonate with your own experiences but also, perhaps, provide the opportunity to consider those experiences from a new perspective.

Pattern Recognition is the result of generous collaborations. The Weatherspoon thanks the following UNCG faculty for sharing insights that helped to shape the selection of artworks: Dr. Greg Bell, Mathematics; Melanie Carrico and Trish Kemerly, Consumer Apparel-Retail Studies; Dr. Kimberly Komatsu, Biology; and Clarice Young, Dance. We also thank interns Allison Cambra ’25 and Gabrielle Peaks ’25 for their contributions to the artwork labels.
