History
The North Carolina Folk Festival (NC Folk Festival) is a nonprofit 501c3 that has provided a free and vibrant music festival to the people of Greensboro and 100,000-plus visitors each fall since 2018. Inspired by the National Folk Festival (which was hosted in Greensboro from 2015–2017), the NC Folk Festival turns downtown into a hub of art, music, dance, and food that is a must-attend for those in the area and anyone with the means to travel in.
This Year’s Lineup
This year’s headliners are St. Paul and the Broken Bones, The Roots, and Molly Tuttle.
St. Paul and the Broken Bones was founded in Birmingham, Alabama, in 2011 and is known for electrifying live soul performances. St. Paul and the Broken Bones will be performing at the GO by Raymond James City Stage at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, September 18th, which also sees the release of their new EP, Proxy.
The Roots are undoubtedly a huge draw for attendees of the NC Folk Festival this year; a major and influential name in music for decades, The Roots were founded in 1987 by Black Thought (Tariq Luqmaan Trotter) and Questlove (Ahmir Khalib Thompson), who remain members of the jazz/hip-hop outfit to this day and will be performing at the GO by Raymond James City Stage at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 19th. This performance also comes as fans anxiously await information about the Roots’ upcoming project, Endgame.
Molly Tuttle is a Nashville-based singer-songwriter who is known for her boundary-pushing bluegrass and accolades as a guitarist. She just released her new album So Long Little Miss Sunshine on the heels of two consecutive Grammy wins for 2022’s Crooked Tree and 2023’s City of Gold, released with the band Golden Highway. Molly Tuttle will be playing at 6:30 p.m. at the GO by Raymond James City Stage on Sunday, September 20th.
