Greensboro Day School has dominated North Carolina high school sports for the last few years, with six state championships in the last decade (2015–2025). The Bengals added their fourteenth state championship since 1989 on Friday, February 27, against Concord Academy at a packed Novant Health Fieldhouse in a dominant 62-34 victory.

The Bengals came into the championship game having only lost two matches all season, going 36-2. In conference play, GDS went undefeated with a 12-0 record. Greensboro’s performances rank it first in NC and 12th in the nation. On the other side of the championship game, Concord Academy had an equally dominant conference record (12-0) and went 29-3 overall, ranking 50th in the nation.
The state championship game was not the first time that the Bengals faced off against Concord Academy. Greensboro’s previous matchup against Concord Academy was on December 6, where GDS took advantage of home court to win 63-56.
On Friday night, Micah Gunter led the offensive engine with 17 points, including a posterizer in the fourth quarter. Marty Giant and Grant Duggins combined with Gunter to score 37 of the Bengals’ 62 points. Cruz Miller paced Concord Academy with nine points.

The Bengals outscored Concord Academy in all four quarters of the match and held the Eagles to just three points in the entire third quarter, which extended the lead to 23 points. The lead would continue to inflate in the fourth quarter with senior Adynn Wynn hitting a corner three in the dying seconds of the match.
With its fourteenth state championship in the trophy case, Greensboro Day School continues to add to its storied legacy as one of the nation’s top high school basketball teams.
